Jamillah: A Display Font with Quiet Confidence
Practical Designer Notes—No Fluff, Just Facts
- Test Jamillah in black and white first—its subtlety disappears on low-contrast screens or printed materials with poor ink coverage.
- Check readability at 14–16px on screen and 8–10pt in print. It holds up better than most display fonts, but don’t push it below that.
- Always mock it up on real surfaces: a kraft label, a linen napkin, a matte website hero banner—not just in Figma.
- Compare uppercase vs. lowercase usage in your layout. Jamillah’s lowercase has more personality; the caps read more formally.
- Review letter spacing manually—especially around punctuation and numbers. Auto-kerning rarely captures its nuance.
- Try pairing it beside a serif font (e.g., Lora), a sans serif (e.g., Montserrat), a script font (e.g., Pacifico), a handwritten font (e.g., Caveat), and another display font (e.g., Playfair Display). Notice how it shifts tone each time.
- Confirm commercial licensing before using in client work, digital products, or physical goods—even if purchased from a reputable marketplace. Some licenses restrict resale in templates or SaaS platforms.
